Sierra Leone’s skipper Umaru Bangura Belarusian side will face a herculean task away in Spain against Villarreal in match day three of their Europa League Group E qualifiers.
For the first time ever both sides’ will go toe to toe in UEFA competition, Dinamo Minsk going into this tie from a back to back domestic victory seating second with 46 points in their league table from 23 matches.
Bangura’s Dinamo has not scored in normal time in their last three European fixtures, two of them Group E defeats and are yet to register a win so far in this competition.
They must show their better side on Thursday as they seek positive starts – Villarreal CF are looking to maintain their 100% record against Belarusian opponents when they welcome FC Dinamo Minsk on at their Estadio El Madrigal Stadium.
Bangura wearing the No 17 jersey was part of the Dinamo’s back four but was powerless against a desperate Rapid Wien and cannot help when Steffen Hofmann scored his fourth in seven outings for Rapid in this campaign of match day two.
The Spanish outfit has won all four of their previous games against Belarusian teams, scoring nine goals combined in their two home victories.
Dinamo Minsk’s only encounters to date with Spanish clubs were a pair of draws against Real Sociedad de Fútbol in the 1987/88 European Cup Winners’ Cup second round. They progressed on away goals thanks to a 1-1 draw in San Sebastian.
The Sierra Leone international was part of the Dinamo Minsk’s side for the second seasons in succession have reached this stage of the competition – they did not progress to the round of 32 in 2014/15.
The Belarusian outfit are bottom of the Group E without a single point.
