2018FIFAWorldCup580Chad beat Sierra Leone 1-0 in N’Djamena on Saturday with a second-half strike from Leger Djimrangar in the 47th minutes was enough to give the home side victory.

Les Sao stunned the visitors Leone Stars in the first leg of their preliminary round qualifier for the 2018 World Cup at their Omnisports Idriss Mahamat Ouya Stadium.

The host was very comfortable at home against a Leone Stars side that ranked over 50 places above them in the global rankings.

Sierra Leone head Coach Sellas Tetteh, who is yet to win a match since taking charge in August this year made three changes to the side that held Ivory Coast to a goalless draw in the 2017 African Cup of Nation’s qualifier.

Les Sao defeated Sierra Leone having lost 2-0 to Nigeria and they were thrashed by Egypt 5-1 in the 2017 Nations Cup qualifiers.

Once again Sierra Leone was unable to take home maximum points against underdogs Chad and now face an uphill task.

Both teams are still in contention to face Egypt next month in the final qualifying round to make the 2018 World Cup qualification group stage.

Raven left back sheriff Suma, Partick Thistle right-back Mustapha Dumbuya and Norrkoping striker Alhaji Kamara were all back in the starting lineup.

In Port Harcourt Nigeria, the second leg is due to be played next Tuesday with the overall winner progressing to play Seven-time African Champions Egypt next round in November.
