- March 7, 2015: Houston Dynamo 1 – Columbus Crew SC 0
Columbus Crew head Coach Gregg Berhalter believes his side must create more chances for Sierra Leone striker Kei Kamara in upcoming matches because ‘Kei’ is more deadly on the offensive.
During the match, Kei Kamara had plenty of opportunities himself, taking six shots on his own, a stat that Berhalter feels is a sign of good things to come.
Speaking just after their 1-0 defeat away to the Houston Dynamo in the 2015 opening MLS campaign Berhalter said, “We need to give (Kamara) more opportunity to score in our next matches, today when we did you could see that he was dangerous.”
“There were times I wanted to find him behind the defensive line. And then the service: We could have looked to serve some earlier balls. He’s a threat in the air, so we want to take advantage of that.” Berhalter said after the match.
However, Head Coach Gregg Berhalter disappointed with opening day defeat, but, after all, it’s not the end of the world.
His side dominated the overall proceeding with over 60% of the possession on the night, but all praises for the Houston stopper Tyler Deric who was the standout performer stopping the visitors and help his side won the day.
Dynamo forward Giles Barnes netted the match’s only goal in the 66th minute, brilliantly finishing Kofi Sarkodie’s cross to give the home side the victory.
“Overall, I’m pretty pleased with our performance, but we did not take our chances and credit to Houston goalkeeper, he did a really good job,” Berhalter noted.
“This is one of those games, you’re going to look back and say, ‘We did a lot good in, and it’s unfortunate we didn’t get something out of it.”
The Black & Gold will be looking to bounce back immediately when they host tough Eastern Conference opponent Toronto FC Saturday March 14, 215 before taking on the New York Red Bulls.
