Gabon struggle to beat 10-man Sierra Leone 2-1 in Afcon friendly

Gabon, despite having the African Best player of the year Aubameyang Pierre-Emerick in the side, struggled to beat 10-man Sierra Leone 2-1 in a friendly African Cup of Nations matchday three at their Franceville Stadium on Friday.

The Dortmund Striker Aubameyang Pierre-Emerick struck the first goal from the penalty spot before Evouna Malick doubles their lead in the 57 min.

Sierra Leone defender Aziz Deen-Conteh was sent off for a controversial handball.

The Leone Stars were more disciplined despite having defender Conteh who recently signed for Moldovan top flight club Zaria Bălți sent off in the 31st minute.

Sheka Fofanah from local club Freetown City Council got Leone Stars consolation goal 80th Minute.

Sierra Leone still bottom of group I with a single point behind Sudan and African champions Ivory Coast.

Gabon will go toe to toe again with Sierra Leone on March 28 in the reverse fixture in Freetown.

Gabon maintained top spot, obviously already qualified for the 2017 finals as hosts.

They will be hosting the continental tournament for the second time.

They previously co-hosted the competition with Equatorial Guinea in 2012.

Meanwhile, The Gabonese president Ali Bongo Ondimba, newly appointed Fifa president Gianni Infantino and Caf president Issa Hayatou were all in attendance during the 2017 Mascot inauguration before kick off with Sierra Leone.
