Ahead of their last home tie of the African Cup of nation’s qualifiers against Sierra Leone, DRC Leopards head coach Florent Ibenge still believes they can qualify for the 2015 AFCON in Equatorial Guinea.
“We are facing Sierra Leone on Wednesday, and we will do our best to win at home,” Ibenge said.
“We are hopeful for second spot in the group or best losers. The chances are small, but I still believe we can win”. Ibenge told the press in Yaoundé.
Despite their narrow 1nil defeat to Cameroon in Yaoundé at the weekend, they are lying third in the Group D, three points adrift from Côte d’Ivoire.
Victory against Sierra Leone for the Leopards in Kinshasa can see them still achieve a top-two finish.
However, they will be hoping Cameroon defeat Ivory Coast in Abidjan on Wednesday.
DRC Leopards are also still in the race for third best losers, which means that a victory against the Leone Stars could see them through to the finals regardless of what happens at the Félix Houphouet-Boigny Stadium.
Meanwhile, Sierra Leone has nothing to play for other than prestige and pride. They are the only team in the group without a win.
Two goals scored and eleven conceded four defeats from five matches lying at the bottom with only a point.
