Kei Kamara’s Columbus Crew ended the regular season with a statement of intent thrashing DC United 5-0 to clinched Eastern Conference second place.
They will face a huge task going toe to toe against Didier Drogba’s Montreal Impact in the 2015 Audi Major League Soccer (MLS) playoff semifinals.
The playoff double header will be played on November 1 and 8, with Frank Klopas’s side hosting the first leg at their Saputo Stadium on Sunday.
The Montreal Impact eased past Toronto FC with three first-half goals to set a date with the Crew SC.
Patrice Bernier, Ignacio Piatti and Didier Drogba were all on target as Impact defeating rival 3-0 on Thursday night in the first playoff meeting between Canadian teams in MLS history.
The Chelsea legend Drogba, since joining Impact has scored 12 goals in 12 matches – very impressive for a 37-year-old.
Kei, 31, who was suspended for the final game of the season is expected to be back in action against a very solid Montreal side.
Kamara netted 22 times against all 21 Major League clubs in 32 appearances and last week says he’ll use Sunday as motivation to bring a title to Columbus, despite his disappointment of losing the Audi Golden Boot to Toronto’s Giovinco.
“Like I said before, I came here not to win the Golden Boot – that was a great run – but to win something big,” he said. “It makes me more hungry going into the playoffs. That’s my motivation right there.”
The Crew SC fans look set to enjoy the advantage in the decisive return fixture slated for 8th of November at the TBD.
