Regardless of their 2-0 defeat at San Jose Earthquakes on Saturday night, Kei Kamara’s double against Seattle Sounders FC did ensure the striker as MLS joint-top highest scorer of the ongoing season.
The 6ft 3in striker is tied up with Clint Dempsey at seven tallies and the Sierra Leone national is also the current League leader in total shots (41) and he ranks second in shots on goal (17), trailing only Vancouver’s Octavio Rivero.
The former Middlesbrough striker is also the only Columbus player to find the back of the net away from home this season, stressed that his side needs to take its winning mentality on the road as well.
The striker said his team has been able to feed off the crowd, especially at their MAPFRE Stadium.
“They are really out there and give you the extra energy that you need,” he said. “For us, being out there has been good, but we have to translate that also when we get on the road.”
“No matter where we are going, everybody just needs to focus and bring the same energy,” he said. “If we can just play our game, play our style, it doesn’t really matter [where we play].”
“We are playing better soccer right now than most teams in the League,” he said. “If we can go in there with the right mentality we can definitely get something from that game.” Kei was quoted as saying on his club website.
