Sierra Leone striker Kei Kamara accounted for his 22nd goal of the season to became the first ever player to score against 21 Major League soccer teams in a season and extended his lead at the top of the MLS goal king race.
Fanendo Adi gave Portland an early second-half lead with his second goal of the game and the Portland Timbers held on to beat the Columbus Crew 2-1 on Saturday night.
Kamara, 31, tied it for Columbus in the 43rd minutes after sneaking around Portland’s Wallace and angled Federico Higuain’s corner inside the near post with a header from the right side of the 6-yard box for his 22nd goal.
Adi opened the scoring in the 28th minute, as he finished Darlington Nagbe’s clever pass before double his tally in the 50th minute.
Adi toe-punched Rodney Wallace’s cross at the end of the break to finish his 12th goal of the season.
