Sierra Leone international Obi Metzger Jr (Pictured) has revealed he re-joined third tier club Atlantis FC to boost his career after recovering from six months lower back injury.
The Leone Stars’ Finnish based striker decision to leave Haka FC for old club Atlantis was motivated by a desire of a regular fist team action.
The 27-year-old, who made just ten League appearances after coming from the sideline during last season, has begins a second spell with Atlantis FC where he made 45 appearances netting 12 goals between 2005-08 season.
“I actually wanted to leave Haka FC, my mind was made up a long time ago,” he told footballsierraleone.net.
“Now I wanted to be match fit by playing regular football after a long time out injured but I was not going to be anyone’s punching bag or second choice. I wasn’t enjoying my football. I wanted to be number one and for that I needed move on in search of a regular game time.
“Leaving Haka FC has never been about money according to reports in Finland for me; I just wanted a chance to play. I want to join a team where I can showcase my abilities. If it was up to me, I’m better off at a smaller club where I can play regularly.”
“I’ve never had any bad relations or fought with any coach in my career. If I feel I have to go, then I have to go.
“There were times when our coach Nelson Strosson played the ‘false No 9’ system and we were four strikers waiting to play all the three strikers will play I will be left out on the bench with growing frustration.
“Ultimately, things don’t go as planned but that’s football. If you go to club, you always have to be on top of your game but mine was different at first it was ok but during the second half of the season it was bad for me due to several injuries.
The purposeful striker has scored one goal from his last three games played since joining Atlantis from Haka FC three weeks ago.
Metzger who has been left out of the national team Leone Stars for a while now admits he has not given up on playing for the national team again.
“I’m not finished yet with my international career, I still have more to offer in terms of goals and believe one day I will get my chance back with the national team.”
