Kei Kamara has aired his frustrations regarding a Columbus Crew SC side that failed to capitalise on their 4-1 lead hosting Montreal Impact on Saturday.
After scoring a brace in the opening 45 minutes the striker was targeting his first career hat trick after Justin Meram was fouled in the Montreal box but team-mate Federico Higuain frustrated Kamara over who to take it despite Kei openly demonstrated he wanted it.
However, after a lengthy conversation between the two players, Higuain eventually scored to give Crew SC a 4-1 lead.
But Columbus Crew can’t hold on to their lead as the visitors rallied late on to level the scoreline 4-4 was the final scores.
Kei, 31, who registered his fifth goal of the season in nine games scoring twice against Montreal made his displeasure known after the match.
[Higuain] said, ‘Let Ethan score.’ And Ethan says, ‘No, you can have it,” Kamara recalled. “Then [Higuain] says, ‘No, I get to take it.’
“That’s selfishness. That’s not a team-mate.” Kamara was quoted as saying in mlssoccer.com
Kamara didn’t stop at the single penalty kick incident. He also said that what unfolded on Saturday night doesn’t change his relationship with Higuain because, according to Kamara, the playmaker hasn’t done enough to help him score.
“I haven’t really had to depend on Pipa at all,” Kamara said. “How long have I been here? How many goals have I scored? How many have come from his assists? One, maybe two. I don’t depend on him. I depend on Ethan; I depend on my outside backs to pass me balls.”
