* Portland Timbers first national championship in club history comes in its 40th season.
The Portland Timbers’ Diego Valeri scored the fastest goal in MLS Soccer history to help his side won their first Major League Soccer national cup with a 2-1 victory over the Columbus Crew in Ohio tonight.
Valeri gave Timbers the lead in 27 seconds and Rodney Wallace headed in a second, then withstood a frantic Columbus rally to secure the cup.
Sierra Leone and Columbus Crew SC striker Kei Kamara pulls one back in the 17th min to resuscitate the Columbus fans after a shocking and disastrous start from the home team but was not enough on the day.
It was Kei’s 26-goal of the season in all competition. The former Boro man was doubtful for the crunch clash, but passed fit hours to kick off.
