Sierra Leone draw Mauritania in CHAN qualifiers

Sierra Leone have been drawn to battle it out with Mauritania in the qualifiers for a place in the 2016 African Nations Championship (CHAN) to be hosted by Rwanda, the competition designed exclusively for local based players on the continent. The draw was made in Cairo, Egypt, today Sunday.

CAF General Secretary, Hicham El Amrani conducted the draw assisted by CAF 2nd Vice President, Almamy Kabele Camara, also president of Organising Committee of the African Nations Championship (CHAN).

The Leone Stars home based team was eliminated from the 2014 preliminary round at home against neighbouring Guinea on the away goals rule after both sides played to a 1-1 draw at the National Stadium in Freetown following the goalless at the September 28 stadium Conakry Guinea.

Qualifying matches slated from June 19-21 through to August 28-30 where 15 teams will emerge to join hosts Rwanda for the final tournament from January 16-February 7.

DRC Leopards was the first team to won the event hosted in Abidjan Ivory Coast in 2009, Tunisia winners 2011 title in Sudan and Libya clinched the 2014 trophy in South Africa.
