The second edition of the CAF U23 Championship is to be held in the Democratic Republic of Congo from 5-19 December 2015 with eight participating teams.
Sierra Leone must first reach the 2015 finals in DR Congo before looking to pick one of the three qualification slots to represent Africa in Rio Brazil 2016.
The team according to Freetown Choice FM 93.5 Sports presenter and media officer Adikalie Kargbo alias PAK, head coach John Keister has 26 players to work with ahead of the April 24, 2015 encounter.
Three former Sierra Leone internationals, John Keister, Abu Bakarr ‘Tostao’ Kamara and Prince Tamba Moses will be leading the team against the underdogs from Guinea-Bissau, they are presently ranked 138 in the World.
However, the CAF executive committee still maintained bans on Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone hosting any international matches because of fears of spreading Ebola.
This means Sierra Leone’s s home clash with Guinea-Bissau scheduled for May 2015 will be played at a neutral venue robbing yet again Sierra Leone fans of providing home support for the team.
Meanwhile, Holders Gabon will only participate in the final round of the qualifiers, where they will face the test of Libya, Mauritania or Mali.
Precisely twelve teams will participate in the first round, Guinea-Bissau hosting Sierra Leone, Libya facing Mauritania, Ghana tackling Liberia, Zimbabwe coming up against Swaziland and Rwanda facing a familiar foe Somali while
Uganda, Mali, Zambia, Congo Brazzaville, Sudan, Cameroon, South Africa and Tunisia have all give byes to the second round of the qualifiers.
Third round winners qualify with hosts DR Congo and the best three finishers qualifies for 2106 Olympics in Brazil
