Sierra Leone U-23 at full strength for Cameroon qualifier

Sierra Leone Olympics U-23 National team are at full strength for their Olympic qualification tie against Cameroon in Yaoundé scheduled for May 24 in their rival’s capital city and the second leg will be held on the weekend of May 29-31, 2015.

According to the team’s media officer, Adekali Pak a 32-man delegation headed by Hon. Francis A. Konuwa including 20 players on Tuesday night left Freetown for Yaoundé, Cameroon for a date with their Cameroonian counterparts in one of this weekend Olympic qualification tie across Africa.

They face a Cameroon side very determined to won the tie and progress to the third round of the qualifiers, Sierra Leone are to host Cameroon in Yaoundé because of the ongoing CAF moratorium on football in Ebola-hit countries, the delegation will be lodged at the Felicia hotel in Yaoundé.

“We have agreed to play both games in Yaoundé and the team leaves for Yaoundé next week,” Sorie Ibrahim Sesay Sierra Leone Football Association head of competition told footballsierraleone.net.

The team concluded their build up for the qualifiers in Liberia with a defeat to FC Fassell after a 2-0 dazzling victory against Gardnersville FC in their first friendly encounter without any injuries or absentees ahead of their Cameroon test. 

The Caf U23 Championship finals will take place from 28 November – 12 December 2015 in Senegal after the withdrawal of DR Congo as host.

The winner between Sierra Leone and Cameroon will take on Algeria in the third round.

According to the CAF, all players participating in the preliminary and final tournament of U-23 African Championship should be born on or after 1 January 1993.

A total of eight teams will play in the final tournament, to be hosted by Senegal. The top three teams of the U-23 will represent Africa in the Olympic Games in Rio 2016.
