Sports Ministry confirms stakeholders’ legitimacy to FIFA

The Sierra Leone Sports Ministry and National Sports Council has, according to their correspondence with the World’s Football governing body, confirmed Isha Johansen in photo as a deposed president of the Sierra Leone Football Association and reiterated their backing for Interim Executive.

Without hesitation, two government bodies have invited FIFA to urgently visit Freetown and verify the ongoing impasse that has brought football into further chaos in the country. Football was initially suspended due to the spread of the Ebola virus.

The stakeholders are getting a very strong support from the government, who are now endorsing their nine-point resolution.

The letter reads:”We want FIFA to review its decisions with regards to the recognition of the SLFA interim executive by FIFA and to also stop corresponding with Madam Isha Johansen and Christopher Kamara.

“That the information given to FIFA by the former SLFA General Secretary that the members are not legitimate is misleading in order to give FIFA the wrong impression, and that the decision by the SLFA members was in conformity with the provision of the SLFA and the FIFA constitution.”

The correspondence was a response to Fifa after the world governing body reiterated support for Johansen and declared the Alhaji Unisa Alim Awoko Sesay interim executive illegitimate.

“The Sport Council acting in accordance with the nation’s Sports Council Act of 1964 provides for the control of sports in Sierra Leone and the council did approve the resolution by the SLFA members dated December 20th 2014 which was agreed upon in accordance with the SLFA constitution by a majority of the legitimate members of SLFA.”
