Sierra Leone-born and England international, Nathaniel Chalobah (Pictured) is in contention for a Three Lions call up after his impressive start to life with Watford.

Chalobah, 22, will snub the opportunity to play for the West African nation in favour of the Three Lions, England, Football Sierra Leone understands.

The Watford midfielder has long caught the eyes of England Manager Gareth Southgate who looks to give him the nod for England’s World Cup qualifiers against Malta and Slovakia alongside ex-captain Wayne Rooney.

The versatile midfielder, who re-joined the Golden Boys Watford on 13 July 2017, on a five-year deal from English defending Champions Chelsea is closely monitored by England manager Gareth Southgate.

It is believed that Southgate thinks the Chelsea Academy product could provide the additional quality to the centre of his side.

The former Chelsea midfielder has never been invited or honoured any call-up to the Sierra Leone national team, Leone Stars but has however featured in several junior teams of the Three Lions.

Chalobah, who is still eligible to play for Sierra Leone, has made over 40 appearances with the English Under 21 side since 2012, including recent European Under-21 Championship where England was denied a place in the final as they lost a gripping semi-final against Germany on penalties.

A call-up by Southgate will end Sierra Leone chances of having Chalobah pulling the colours of the West Africa nation just like former midfielder Nigel Reo-Coker who was also eligible to play for Sierra Leone.

Another Sierra Leonean who was close to playing for England was Christopher Gerald Bart-Williams.

The Former Nottingham Forest, Charlton Athletic and Ipswich Town 5 ft 10-inch defensive midfielder, play for England under-21s and was called up to train with the Three Lions senior squad but was never able to win a full England cap.
