Newly promoted Ghanaian top-flight club Karela United FC have confirmed the capture of Sierra Leone international striker Donald Wellington on a two-year deal from East End Lions.

“Karela United is delighted to announce that Sierra Leonean Donald Wellington has completed his transfer on a two-year contract,” the club posted on their official Facebook page.

“I am happy so much for this move because we are not playing football for now in my country,” Wellington, 25, told footballsierraleone.net.

“I’m looking forward to the league starting next month,” he added.

The exciting and experienced attacker has been in brilliant form with the newly promoted side and was part of the squad that played in the G8 pre-season tournament.

He played in two of the group stage matches against Heart and Medeama where he missed the crucial penalty against the Miners.

The former IFK Varnamo has also had a spell in Lebanon with Shabab Al-Ghazieh and was linked with Norwegian club Stabæk.

He has won four caps for Sierra Leone most recently was part of the Leone Stars home-based side that was eliminated 2-0 in the WAFU Cup of Nations by Nigeria’s home-based Eagles at the Cape Coast Sports Stadium in September 2017.

He featured against Senegal despite losing 4-2 on aggregate in Dakar at the Alassane Djigo Stadium in Pikine (outskirts of Dakar) in July 2017 during the CHAN qualifiers.

Wellington has also played in every level from U-17 up to U-23 for Sierra Leone.
