Coventry City have signed Sierra Leone native Amadou Bakayoko from League One rivals Walsall for an undisclosed fee.

The 22-year-old has agreed on a two-year contract with the Sky Blues.

It was reported that Bristol Rovers are already closing in on the forward before he becomes Coventry’s 11th signing of the summer transfer window.

The striker scored 18 goals in 106 games for Walsall after making his first-team debut in April 2014.

Bakayoko was left out of the squad for Walsall’s win against Plymouth on Saturday after the Saddlers accepted a transfer bid for the target man.

The former Southport, Telford and Worcester forward, was named the Saddlers’ 2016/17 Young Player of the Season.

The powerful frontman impressed for Walsall at youth level and received his first professional contract during the 2013/14 season.

He scored a hat-trick on his full Saddlers debut a 5-2 Checkatrade Trophy victory over Grimsby in August 2016 – and went on to plunder a further seven goals that campaign.
