Mohamed Buya Turay has admitted that he is ‘happy’ after his move to Belgian top-tier side Saint Truiden on Wednesday for a fee believed to be around €1.6m.

The Dalkurd FF striker agreed on a three-year deal after passing medical.

The Sierra Leone international scored 9 goals in 13 appearances for the Swedish side before his move.

Turay, 23, has been impressive since signing a three-year contract with newly promoted Swedish top-flight side four months ago.

He accounted for nine goals last season while playing for AFC Eskilstuna in the top flight before they were relegated.

During the 2016 season in the Swedish Superettan, Turay accounted for ten goals to help AFC Eskilstuna promoted to Allsvenskan.

He now joins a long list of Sierra Leone natives that have played for top-tier clubs in Belgium.

They include former Internationals Ibrahim Koroma, Mohamed Kanu, Paul Kpaka, Musa ‘Jarzinhno’ Kanu, former Leone Stars skipper Ibrahim ‘Obreh’ Kargbo, Mustapha Sama ake Pa Saffa and Aluspa Brewah.

“I’m delighted to have signed for this great club. It’s a new direction for me and I am ready to work and work harder to help my team and teammates,” Buya told Football Sierra Leone UK.

“It’s a massive club, and coming from Sweden, I know exactly how much it means to me. I am looking forward to my first match.”

“Buya Turay has been a very loyal player for the short time he has been with us. He has always worked hard and showed a good character, both in training and on matches.”

“This season he has done very well, it is natural that interest is gained from both domestic and foreign clubs. This is a store we are very pleased with.

“We are very pleased that Buya Turay gets this chance and we are proud to take the step from Dalkurd to games out in Europe, says Dalkurd’s sports director Adil Kizil.

The Belgian Jupiler League is ongoing and Turay is expected to make his De Kanaries debut against KSC Lokeren this weekend at their Stayen stadium.
