Former South Africa and Leeds United striker Phil Masinga have died at age 49 according to his country’s football association.

He was a brilliant member of the Bafana squad that won the African Nations Cup in 1996.

Masinga has had spells in England‚ Switzerland‚ Italy‚ Mamelodi Sundowns‚ Leeds United‚ Jomo Cosmos.

Rest In Peace.

The lanky 49-year old won over 50 caps for South Africa National team and it was his scintillating goal from 30 yards against Congo that got SA to a maiden appearance at the World Cup in 1998.

His debut for South Africa was in July 1992 against Cameroon in his country’s first match following readmission to international football by Fifa after the end of Apartheid.
