Manhattan men’s soccer team have reinforced its 2019 roster with the addition of New York City product Joseph Koroma, Head Coach Jorden Scott has announced.

Born in the US grew up in Sierra Leone, the young talent spent two seasons with the NYCFC Academy U-16/17 and U-18/19 squads.

Koroma is the first newcomer ahead of the 2019 campaign and will be hoping to help his new side doing great things in the Men’s Soccer Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference in the new season.

Koroma, 17, during the 2016-2017 season, made 12 appearances with the U-16/17 side, scoring three goals earning a promotion to the U-18/19 team.

“We are delighted to add Joseph to our program and offer him the chance to add another exciting chapter to his amazing story,” noted Scott.

“He comes from a top MLS academy, under the direction of Matt Pilkington at NYCFC, so we expect him to be a key part of our squad immediately.”

“Adding an elite local player shows the progress we are making as a program, with top recruits attracted to a team that has made history in the last few years and will continue to compete at the highest level.”

Koroma has participated in the U.S. Soccer Development Academy since 2015 when he was a part of BW Gottschee Academy’s U-15/16 and U-13/14 teams in New York City.

In two seasons, he scored an astounding 30 goals across 40 matches, earning recognition from Top Drawer Soccer as one of the best non-MLS talents in the DA.

He started playing soccer competitively in the city with FC Harlem, climbing up to its U-13 program.

In May of last year, BESE profiled his soccer journey and his footprint in the community in its sports series, “Point x Point”.

Outside of soccer, Football Sierra Leone understands that Koroma has volunteered with the Harlem Children’s Zone and previously helped out at the District Office of Assemblyman Michael Blake.
