Kei Kamara was given a marching order late on against Real Salt Lake as Colorado Rapids suffered a 2-0 defeat on Saturday night at Rio Tinto Stadium as part of Heineken Rivalry Week.

The MLS fifth all-time goal scorer, who is facing a suspension by the Sierra Leone Football Association, was showed a straight red card by referee Ted Unkel for a bad challenge on RSL right back Brooks Lennon.

The game was scoreless after the first 45 minutes despite the Rapids were the better side.

Kamara, 34, was sent off in the 88th minute after a rough challenge towards Lennon’s thigh despite replay showed no contact. However, he will not be available next week.

The striker posted on Twitter after the match, “Never a Red card, Never a penalty, we worked too hard to lose in that manner. Sorry and thanks to our fans that came out tonight #Rapids96.”

In the 96th and 99th minute respectively, the host scored twice to ensure victory with goals from Joao Plata and Jefferson Savarino.

Kamara is currently leading Colorado scorer with 11 goals scored in MLS play this season.
