• One of Sierra Leone’s Group L qualifying opponent for a place in the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations, Lesotho have appointed Thabo Senong as their new coach.
  • Lesotho will take on Ethiopia a week from today in the first leg preliminary of 2022 World Cup qualifiers.

Senong arrives from neighboring South Africa, where he led the country to the last two Under-20 World Cups.

The 38-year-old’s contract was not renewed in May after the latest tournament in Poland, where South Africa failed to win a match.

The former South African Under 20 coach, has been unveiled as new Lesotho Senior National team- Likuena head coach and a three-year contract with Umbro as a technical sponsor for national teams.

Technical director Lesli Notsi has already selected a squad for the two legs against Ethiopia. Lesotho play away on September 4 before the return leg in Maseru four days later.

They also have CHAN 2020 qualifiers against Zimbabwe later in the month and are in a group with Nigeria, Benin and Sierra Leone for the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers that start in November.

Sierra Leone face Lesotho in the Africa Cup of Nations campaign November 11th in Freetown.

The fixture will be the opening Group L qualifying match of both sides’ in the race for the 2021 AFCON which will be staged in Cameroon.
