Sierra Leone Women’s U-20 coach Alhaji “Abedi” Foray says young Sierra Queens are determined in their quest for a positive result when they take on their Senegalese counterpart on Saturday.
The young queens will host Senegal in the FIFA U-20 Women’s U20 World Cup Costa Rica & Panama 2020 preliminary round, first leg qualifying at the Bo City stadium.
Kickoff 16:30 GMT at the Southern Province multi-purpose stadium
“The girls are in high spirit, well prepared and highly determined to give the desired result on Saturday. Motivation is high, and there is a huge sense of responsibility in the camp,” the head coach was quoted as saying.
He added, “We are highly motivated and in high spirit to make Sierra Leone proud.”
Over the festive season, in Bo, Marie ‘Fabio’ Conteh and Kumba ‘Pele’ Brima scored as Sierra Leone defeat their Liberian counterparts 2-0 in an under-20 female-friendly contest.
The last time Sierra Leone Women’s team was in a competitive international qualifier was against Nigeria, and they were thrashed 16-0 six years ago.
Meanwhile, the reverse fixture between Young Queens and their Senegalese counterparts is slated for the weekend of January 31-February 2 in Senegal.
The winner over two legs will progress to face the winner between Uganda and Tanzania in the next round.
Elsewhere, Egypt U-20 women’s national team suffered a 5-3 defeat to Morocco in the preliminary round of the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup qualifiers.
The second leg is set for Morocco next month as the Ladies Pharaohs look to turn things around on 2 February.
