- South Africa’s Patrice Motsepe was elected the new Confederation of African Football (CAF) president in Rabat, Morocco, on Friday.
The Mamelodi Sundowns owner will replace the outgoing Ahmad Ahmad of Madagascar, who was elected four years ago but suspended last November on corruption charges.
Mamelodi Sundowns delighted the news as they tweeted, “Mamelodi Sundowns sends its congratulations and best wishes to Dr Patrice Motsepe after being elected CAF President. Mamelodi Sundowns supports you in all your endeavours.”
Only Egypt’s Hany Abo Rida kept his place in the Fifa council from CAF, with five new faces.
Mathurin de Chacus (Benin), Mamoutou Toure (Mali), Fouzi Lekjaa (Morocco), Amaju Pinnick (Nigeria), and Isha Johansen (Sierra Leone) newly elected.
