Liberia won the maiden Mano River Union (MRU) football for peace tournament in Kenema Eastern Province in Sierra Leone on 28 April.

After a goalless first half between the two neighbours, Liberia Nimba Kwado striker Alloy Brown double were enough in the second half to clinch the Mano River Union (MRU) football for peace tournament.

FIFA secretary-general Fatma Samoura, Liberia Football Association President Mustapha Raji, Sierra Leone Sports Minister Ibrahim Nyelenkeh and Sierra Leone Football Association President Isha Johansen among the dignitaries that graced the occasion at the newly newly-constructed artificial turf in Kenema.

Under John Keister, the Leone Stars are still searching for their first win. Sierra Leone has only won once in their last ten matches.

Their last victory was against Liberia in a World Cup qualifying match in Freetown back in September 2019.

Wednesday’s defeat to Liberia has added to the recent friendlies at the Stade Cheikha Boydie in Nouakchott Mauritania and the Stade Général Seyni Kountché, Niamey, Niger.

In the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations Group L qualifiers, the Leone Stars drew in all their last three matches against Nigeria and Lesotho.
