Africa’s second-round race to Qatar 2022 kickoff with some interesting second round first leg results on Wednesday. Forty national teams vying for ten third-round places with only group winners will qualify for the final round.

Liverpool attacker Sadio Mane scored Senegal’s first goal in their opening Group H 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifier 2-0 victory over Togo at the Stade Lat Dior in Thies on Wednesday.

The Lions of Teranga made an early statement of intent as they eased to a 2-0 win over Togo with goals from Sadio Mane and Abdou Diallo.

In Group F, the Pharaohs of Egypt opened their qualification campaign with a 1-0 win over Angola at home. They are in the group against Angola, Libya, and Gabon.

Liverpool star Mohamed Salah was absent for duty due to United Kingdom coronavirus travel restrictions to travel ‘red list countries.

Group E, Adama Traoré scored the game only goal in their group opener as host Mali registered their opening 1-0 win over Rwanda at Grand Stade d’Agadir in Morocco.

In Group I, Joseph Mendes’ late equaliser denied Guinea an opening win away from home at Stade Olympique, Nouakchott.

Guinea took the lead through Francois Kamano, but host Guinea-Bissau rallied late on to restore parity through Joseph Mendes.

Elsewhere, the Central African Republic played 1-1 against Cape Verde in their Group C opening contest at the Reunification Stadium in Douala, Cameroon.

The qualification will continue with big nations like Algeria, Nigeria, Cameroon, Tunisia and Ivory Coast are all in action on Thursday and Friday.
