Sierra Leone Players Abroad League action recap.
Defender Osman Kakay made his Queens Park Rangers English Championship return in a 4-0 defeat to Watford at Vicarage Road in the season opener on Saturday.
The Sierra Leone International Osman Kakay has been out of football action since his knee injury in March.
However, his inclusion cannot prevent their bitter pill to swallow. On an afternoon to firmly forget, Valérien Ismaël’s Hornets scored all four of their goals before half-time to subject QPR to defeat.
In Scotland – Amadou Bakayoko made his Scottish Premiership debut as Dundee kicked off their 2023/24 campaign with a 1-1 draw against Motherwell at the Kilmac Stadium.
Bakayoko’s Dundee had to come from behind after seeing the Championship winners’ flag unfurled at a drenched Dens Park.
Lyall Cameron’s first-ever Scottish Premiership goal ensures Dundee a point at home to Motherwell at a sodden Dens Park.
Winger Sullay Kaikai made his Cambridge United League One debut in their 2-0 win over Oxford City at their Abbey Stadium on Saturday.
Cambridge United claimed all three points in their opening game of the 2023/24 Sky Bet League One season as they defeated Oxford United 2-0 at a bumper Abbey Stadium.
The Sierra Leone winger played the last seventeen minutes after he was introduced to replace Saikou Janneh.
Kamil Conteh made his Sky bet League Two debut as Grimsby Town’s return to action against AFC Wimbledon at Blundell Park. Jake Eastwood saved a penalty to ensure Grimsby Town started the new season with a point from a goalless draw with AFC Wimbledon at Blundell Park.
The Sierra Leone midfielder played the full throttle of their season opener.
National League – Idris Kanu National League side Barnet open their campaign with a 3-2 win at their Hive Stadium on Saturday.
Kanu, 23, started the tie as Barnet held off a late fightback to edge a National League victory over Hartlepool in their season opener.
USL Championship – Kevin Wright’s Oakland Roots defeated Augustine Williams Charleston Battery 1-0 on Friday at Patriots Point.
Charleston Battery took early control of the game through possession but never seriously threatened the Oakland net in the first 20 minutes.
The Battery continued on the front foot, with players like Austine Williams, Fidel Barajas, and Beto Avila creating danger in front of Oakland’s goal. However, against the run of play – Oakland eventually scored when Memo Diaz curled a perfect cross to Danny Barbir, who headed Roots into the lead in the 41st minute.
Oakland maintained that 1-0 advantage into the half. In the second half, the Battery came out in control again as Roots’ centre back, Emrah Klim.
Oakland Roots will now have a week off before returning home on Saturday, August 19th, to host Colorado Springs Switchbacks.
