Rangers coach Alhaji Foray names squad for LISCR decider

Bo Rangers head coach Alhaji Foray has named a 23-man squad for their CAF Champions League first-leg preliminary crunch decider against Liberian side LISCR Football Club on Sunday in Liberia.

Samuel Kanyon Doe Stadium to host the preliminary second leg between the two neighbouring sides for a place in the next round of the competition as the Southern Province side heads to the Liberian capital with renewed energy.

Kickoff on Sunday, August 27, 2023, at the SKD is at 16:00 hrs GMT.

  • First-leg recap – Spoils shared between Bo Rangers and LISCR in the CAF Champions League

Sierra Leone champions Bo Rangers opened their CAF Champions campaign with a 1-1 draw against Liberian side LISCR in their first leg CAF Champions League preliminary in Bo.

Rangers scored an early goal through Mohamed Kabba in the 3rd minute, but they were unable to extend their lead. As a result, the visitors drew parity in the 34th minute through Christopher Jackson at the Southern Arena on Saturday 19, 2023. 

The last time Rangers played continental football, they were eliminated by Algerian side CR Belouizdad 3-0 on aggregate following a goalless first leg last September.

Midfielder Tyrese Fornah joins Derby from Forest

Midfielder Tyrese Fornah joins Derby from Forest

Sierra Leone native Tyrese Fornah has signed a two-year deal with League One side Derby County until the summer of 2025.

The 23-year-old is Derby’s ninth signing for an undisclosed agreement between the two clubs.

Last season, Fornah featured in 37 games for Reading, where he scored two goals and two assists.

Fornah, who can play in a variety of midfield roles, will continue his football career at Pride Park Stadium.

Tyrese Fornah In Profile

Fornah initially came through the youth ranks at Brighton & Hove Albion before joining Forest’s Academy set-up in 2018.

Fornah impressed at youth level before being handed his senior debut off the bench for the Reds in an FA Cup Third Round tie at Chelsea in January 2020.

He has also had loan spells with Plymouth, Shrewsbury and Portuguese club Casa Pia, but the latter was cut short by the Covid pandemic.

FC Kallon to face Dreams or Milo in the next round 

Sierra Leone CAF Confederation Cup representative for the 2023/24 competition, FC Kallon, has reached the competition’s second round without kicking a ball following the withdrawal of AS Douanes. 

The Freetown-based outfit will face the winner between Milo FC de Kankan Guinea and Dreams FC Ghana in the CAF Confederation second preliminary round for a place in the group stages.

The former Inter Milan and Monaco was the coach of his club (FC Kallon) in the CAF inter-clubs Confederation Cup last September when they progressed to the second qualifying stage of the competition. 

Under his guidance, they eliminated Buffles de Borgou of Benin 4-0 on aggregate – but they suffered a heavy defeat to the Egyptian side FC Future over the two legs in the second preliminary round.

Milo and Dreams shared spoils in the first leg 1-1 at the General Lansana Conté Stadium on Saturday, 19, 2023.

The Accra Sports Stadium will host the return leg between Dreams and Mila on Sunday, August 27, 2023.

The second preliminary round will take place 15 -19 September for the first leg before the return fixtures from 19 October 2023.

Jonathan Morsay on his ‘perfect’ AEL Limassol debut

Sierra Leone International Jonathan Morsay was pleased after he scored the winning goal on his debut for Cyprus first-tier side AEL Limassol on Monday.

Morsay, 25, opened his account in the 8-minute of play in their 1-0 win over Doxa Katokopias as they held on to register their first win on the opening day of the Cypriot First Division.

In his postmatch Interview, he told pressmen that his debut was the perfect way to introduce himself to his new fans.

‘It was the perfect debut. We fought on the pitch and got the win. The goal on my debut made my day. We battled it out on the pitch for the win. 

The Cypriot League is similar to the Greek League. It has a fast pace. We have a good team. We’re going to build on this win. The fans were great.”

He joined the club in July on a two-year deal after parting ways with Greek side Panetolikos.

The reverse fixture will be played at the SKD in Liberia on Sunday, August 27, as both teams will be hoping to make the next stage of the competition.

The last time Rangers played continental football, they were eliminated by Algerian side CR Belouizdad 3-0 on aggregate following a goalless first leg last September.

Having won the Sierra Leone Premier League unbeaten after a run of 34 games, they will look to continue in that form later this afternoon against their Liberian counterpart.

Several sides have gained advantages to take into their second-leg clashes, while some face uphill tasks to keep their Champions League hopes alive.
