Cambuur defender Alex Bangura extends contract to 2024

Sierra Leone defender Alex Bangura has extended his Cambuur contract until 2024.

“The option in the contract of the 23-year-old left-back has been lifted. Bangura is under contract with SC Cambuur until the summer of 2024,” the club said in their statement.

Bangura, who joined Cambuur from Feyenoord’s youth academy in 2018, has made almost a hundred appearances for SC Cambuur.

The Sierra Leone International has been an integral figure for the Dutch top tier in the last three seasons.

Presently, in Dubai with the Sierra Leone national team ahead of two training camp matches this week.

ASFAR dominate CAF Women’s CL 2022 individual awards

ASFAR trio, Fatima Tagnaout, keeper Khadija Er-rmichi and forward Ibtissam Jraidi took the top honours at the CAF Women’s Champions League 2022 individual awards.

Tagnaout, the Moroccan midfielder, was voted the CAF Women’s Champions League Best Player of the Tournament for her influential role during the competition.

Tagnaout scored the opening goal from the spot and provided a hat-trick of assists that ensured that ASFAR silenced the South African side to be crowned African champions at Stade Prince Moulay Abdellah on Sunday night, November 13, 2022.

Er-rmichi, the Moroccan club keeper, who was edged to the WCL Egypt 2021 and WAFCON 2022 awards by Andile Dlamini got her sweet revenge as she helped ASFAR claim their first-ever title, walked away with the Best Goalkeeper of the Tournament.

Jraidi once again showed her clinical strength and superb finish techniques with six goals to claim the Golden Boot.

The CAF Fair Play Award went to Nigeria’s Bayelsa Queens, who won the bronze medal on their maiden appearance after a 1-0 victory over Simba Queens in the third-place match, while the Team of the Tournament went to ASFAR following their triumph.

The list was compiled by the CAF Technical Study Group (TSG) composed of Clementine Toure (Cote d’Ivoire head coach), Meskerem Tadesse Goshime (Head of CAF Women’s Football Development), Jacqui Shipanga (Namibia Technical Director), and Lamia Boumehdi (Former Morocco international).

Leone Stars newbies & first training session

Two new faces were drafted to the Sierra Leone A team from U23 as they hit the Fujairah training pitch with head coach John Keister during their United Arab Emirates (UAE) training camp.  

Jay Tee Kamara from Columbus Crew and Mohamed Kabia Mbabane Swallows were brilliant against Zambia during U23 African Cup of Nations matches last month.

As well as offering developmental experiences to some players selected, the trip will support Sierra Leone Men’s Test preparation for their African Cup of Nations doubleheader next year.

Sixteen foreign-based players were part of the team out on the grass as they re-group to bounce back from DRC and South Africa defeats.

Check out some images of their first session lasted for an hour and a half at the Fujairah training facility on Tuesday.

Sixteen foreign-based for Sierra Leone Dubai Training Camp

Sierra Leone National A team, Leone Stars, have opened a week-long training camp in the United Arab Emirates with sixteen foreign-based players and six home-based stars.

Football Sierra Leone understands the full contingent arrived safely en route from Guinea for Dubai ahead of two expected matches during their training in Dubai.

Players and officials will reside at the Concorde Hotel in Fujairah as this training camp will be part of head coach John Keister’s preparation for next year’s doubleheader against Sao Tome in March 2023.

This medium gathered that Sierra Leone could probably face Kuwait on the 16th before taking on the Desert Warriors of Algeria on the 19th of November, respectively, at the Fujairah Club Stadium.

As well as offering developmental experiences to some players selected, the trip will support Sierra Leone men’s preparation for their African Cup of Nations doubleheader next year.

Attacker Idris Kanu takes his season tally to 5 goals

Attacker Idris Kanu recorded his fifth of the season in Barnet‘s 2-0 win over Oldham Athletic at Boundary Park on Saturday.

Sierra Leone International is enjoying a positive start to the season at Barnet.

The frontman opened the scoring in the 57th minute before Harry James Pritchard doubled their lead in the 87th-minutes as the Bees moved up to seventh in the National League table.

The versatile attacker, who arrived to bolster Dean Brennan’s attack for the 22/23 season, has been on a good run since joining the club in September.

Three wins in their last five games, and their next outing is against Chelmsford City in the FA Cup on Monday.
